Designing a new Product and Label

Designing products that people want to buy is challenging. Honestly, I’ve never designed anything that people have felt compelled to purchase. When considering a car care brand, I wanted to focus on products I would personally use. This meant concentrating on a core set of products that I use every week.

Secondly, I wanted a name that reflected my objective. The name that stood out to me was “Gloss Riders.” When you’re a kid marveling at gorgeous vehicles, what’s the first thing you notice? It’s the shiny two-tone paints or the glimmer on tires. “Gloss Riders” encapsulates my goal of keeping cars glossy. I want our products to deliver the most shine for the longest possible time.

Thirdly, the logo and labels needed to feature the cars we love: muscle cars. Our logo and background images are hand-selected photos, with just enough contrast to read the wording without diluting the background image. From the reflection of our main logo car to the reflection of trees in the background image, every detail will showcase the shine I hope our products deliver.

Next, I wanted it to be clear what the product is. Too often, I come across car care products with convoluted descriptions. We’re featuring a clean background image, our logo, and straightforward directions. I didn’t want to clutter the label with unnecessary details about scents or lengthy explanations of how it conditions leather or paint. You buy it because we care about our customers, and because we’re USA-grown and Maryland-owned.

Like all brands, I’m sure we’ll go through label and logo redesigns, but I want to stay true to the principles of simplicity, storytelling, and effectiveness. Most importantly I want to use this as a platform to teach people about the art of cars and show people who to properly care for their vehicles. Please tell me how we did. Reach out to my number of the page and I’ll be happy to chat.

Stay Glossy
